Dennis K.J. Lin selected as new department head

The Department of Statistics will welcome Dennis K.J. Lin, Distinguished Professor of Supply Chain and Statistics at Pennsylvania State University, as the new head of statistics on July 15, 2020.
Professor Lin received his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from National Tsing-Hua University in Taiwan and his doctoral degree in statistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a minor in computer science. His research interests are design of experiments, quality assurance, industrial statistics, data mining, and data science. He is an elected Fellow of the Institute for Mathematical Statistics, the American Statistical Association, Royal Statistical Society, and the American Society of Quality, and is an elected member of International Statistical Institute. Professor Lin will give the 2020 Deming Lecture at the upcoming Joint Statistical Meetings virtual conference.
With his appointment, Lin joins a small but distinguished group of Purdue Statistics department heads. He succeeds Hao Zhang, who headed the department since 2015. Previous heads include Rebecca W. Doerge (2010-2015), Mary Ellen Bock (1995-2010), and Shanti S. Gupta (1968-1995).
