Breakthrough: Local and Global Asymptotic Inference in Smoothing Spline Models

09-04-2014

Zuofeng Shang and Guang Cheng have recently published one research article on the Local and Global Asymptotic Inference in Smoothing Spline Models (Annals of Statistics; 41:2608-2638). The new procedures for inference developed in this article, together with their rigorously derived asymptotic properties, fill one long-standing gap in the smoothing spline literature. It has been commented that this work is "perhaps the most important breakthrough in the asymptotic theory of spline smoothing in a long time".
