Deely Honored at Conference

Dr. John Deely, 1965 Purdue Statistics Ph.D. graduate, 1958 Purdue Mathematics M.S. graduate, and instructor for the largest Department of Statistics course, STAT 113, was honored at a conference on July 5-6, 2007 at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. The conference was held in tandem to the New Zealand Statistical Association (NZSA) 2007 Conference held at the University of Canterbury. Dr. Deely is the former Chair of Statistics at the University of Canterbury.

The plenary speaker for the conference was James O'Berger, a longtime friend of Dr. Deely. Dr. Berger is regarded internationally as one of the leading proponents of Bayesian statistics and statistical decision theory. Other speakers included Professor Ronald Christensen, University of New Mexico; Professor Jayanta K. Ghosh, Purdue University; Professor Wesley O'Johnson, University of California, Irvine; Dr. Frank Lad, University of Canterbury; and Professor Steve Samuels, Purdue University. Dr. Frank Lad, a good friend and colleague of Dr. Deely's, hosted the conference dinner.
