Theresa (Tracy) Choka Receives Actuarial Science Outstanding Alumni Award
10-01-2007
On Thursday, October 4, 2007, the Purdue Actuarial Science program, administered jointly by the Department of Statistics and the Department of Mathematics, awarded Theresa (Tracy) Choka with the Actuarial Science Outstanding Alumni Award. The award honors Choka for her contributions and leadership within the Actuarial Science profession.
Choka began her career with Lincoln Financial Group's actuarial program in 1988. At that point in her career, she was referred to as an "actuarial student," meaning that she was still taking actuarial exams. Typically, it takes about seven years after graduation to finish the exams and become a fellow of one of the actuarial societies--Choka did it in just four. By 1999 she was the Head of the Research & Development group at Lincoln Re, the reinsurance arm of Lincoln. In 2001 she joined Swiss Re as the Senior Vice President of Applied Research & Development. She is currently Managing Director, Life and Health Products. This role encompasses actuarial pricing, product development and applied Research & Development work for life and health reinsurance in North America.
Choka received her B.S. in Mathematics in 1988. During her time at Purdue she was a member of the Purdue Actuary Club and served as President during the 1987-1988 academic year.
