For the calendar year 2006, the Department of Statistics graduated six Ph.D. students, twenty-six M.S. students, six Graduate Certificate students, forty-six Undergraduate Statistics students and twenty-nine Actuarial Science students.
We would like to highlight the outstanding achievements of Laura Delaney. In three and a half years she obtained a BS degree in Statistics and Actuarial Science with a minor in Management. Academically she ranks as one of the top Purdue graduates in Actuarial Science and Statistics in the past several years. She passed both the Society of Actuaries Exam P and FM.
The list of honors and awards she accumulated is impressive. Among her list of honors and awards are Dean's List, Semester Honors, Indiana Resident Top Scholar, Purdue Academic Success Award, National Merit Scholar, Phi Eta Sigma National Scholarship Award, Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarship Award, V.L. Anderson Statistics Scholarship Award, Actuarial Science Scholarship Award, and the annual John Culver Wooddy Scholarship Award from the Society of Actuaries, which was awarded to nine outstanding seniors across the U.S. and Canada in 2006.
Not only has she been a strong academic performer, but her involvement in extracurricular activities shows that she is a well-rounded individual. She served as the Treasurer and a Committee Chair to the Purdue Science Student Council, Treasurer of Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, Hostess for the Purdue Old Masters program, and was a member of the Actuarial Science club and the Purdue Chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
To acquire valuable work experience in the actuarial field, Laura interned with two different companies. During the summer of 2005 she interned as an Actuarial Student intern with OneAmerica Financial Partners, a company that offers retirement plan products and services; individual life insurance and annuities; long-term care insurance; and group insurance. She interned as an Actuarial Student intern with Allstate Property and Casualty Company during the summer of 2006.
It's not surprising that Laura had her pick of job offers. She will be working as an actuarial analyst in the pricing department of Allstate Property and Casualty Company.
Congratulations to all of our graduates! We wish you the best and look forward to hearing from you!
