Data Visualization (DV) with R lattice graphics

Room | Time

Description

The content is the Trellis Display framework for multivariate data.Variables in the data are divided into subsets by conditioning on other variables. An analytic method is applied to each subset and the results are displayed in a multi-panel array across columns, rows, and "pages".The conditioning is a very powerful system for understanding the properties and interactions among multiple variables.

Trellis Display is implemented by the lattice graphics package in R.

Some knowledge of R is suggested for the workshop. lattice comes with the R core  distribution so no installation is needed. Just use library(lattice) in R to get it.  There is a web page ml.stat.purdue.edu/datavis that has many documents with information about lattice and datasets. So the page is a good place to find out more about lattice.

Participants will learn many visualization concepts, methods, and algorithms, as well  as principles of display that enhance the visual decoding of the information on visual displays.

Participants can bring laptops with R installed or use a lab computer to download datasets and get some practice using lattice during the workshop and then forever.
