2008 Statistics Outstanding Alumnus: H. Paul Root
H. Paul Root served as the President of the Marketing Science Institute (MSI) in Cambridge, MA from 1990-1998. MSI is recognized as one of the most prestigious institutes in the world due to its grants to academics based on a set of "mutual learning" priorities established mutually between business executives and academics in marketing and related disciplines. Throughout his long and varied career, he has also worked in quality control and as a reliability statistician in the Semiconductor R&D department of the Delco Electronics Division of General Motors, as Director of Admissions for the MSIA program at the Krannert School, as a member of the faculty at the University of Michigan�s Business School, and as a member of the Finance Staff of General Motors. Root received his B.S. in Mathematical Statistics from Purdue University in 1959 and went on to earn an MS in Industrial Administration in 1963 and a Ph.D. in Marketing in 1969 from Purdue�s Krannert School.
