Answers

  1. What is Purdue University's code for GRE and TOEFL scores?
The university code for sending GRE and TOEFL scores is 1631. No department code is needed.

  2. If my TOEFL scores are older than two years can I submit them?
Our department requires TOEFL scores to be no more than two years old. There is no exception to this rule, please do not ask for an exception.

  3. How do I apply for funding?
PhD students are automatically considered for teaching assistant (TA) funding when they apply to the department. Many graduate students in the department are supported by teaching assistantships which provide reductions in tuition and fees to several hundred dollars per semester.
Students who wish to be considered for Fellowship funding are required to submit a "Diversity Essay". Instructions for writing and submitting the essay can be found on Purdue's Graduate On-line Application.

  4. May I work on two graduate degrees at the same time?
Students are allowed to work on a Ph.D. and a Master's Degree at the same time. They are not allowed to work on two Master's Degrees at the same time.

  5. How many international and domestic students do you accept every year?
Our department does not have quotas as to how many new international or domestic students we will accept. We usually admit new students as other students graduate from the department.

  6. Should I send faculty and staff my resume to see if I am qualified to apply for your program?
Generally, such questions cannot be answered without actually looking at your official application materials. Students should see our Admissions web page, for basic guidelines.

  7. Should I email faculty and staff asking them to take me on as a research or teaching assistant?
Faculty and staff do not offer research assistantships to applicants unless they are accepted to our department. If you are applying to our department, please do not make such requests to faculty and staff.

  8. Could you please tell me when my application will be processed?
The deadline date for spring applications is October 15 for all students. Applications for spring are usually processed in late October/early November.

The deadline date for fall applications is December 31. Applications for fall are usually processed by April 15 with some decisions coming earlier.

Please be patient while the admissions committee makes their decision.

  9. Will applications be accepted after the deadline date?
Late applications will not be accepted. They will be considered, however, for the next admission session. The deadline date for spring applications is October 15. The deadline date for fall applications is December 31.

  10. Can the requirement to submit TOEFL (for applicants whose native language is not English) scores be waived?
No. The only exception to this requirement is for applicants to the 5th year Applied Statistics MS program.

  11. Do I need to submit TOEFL scores if I'm applying to the 5th year Applied Statistics MS program?
    No.

  12. What is the deadline for making a decision about an offer of admission?
According to the Resolution Regarding Graduate Scholars, Fellows, Trainees, and Assistants, written by the Council of Graduate Schools and renewed by numerous institutions in October of 2014, "Students are under no obligation to respond to offers of financial support prior to April 15; earlier deadlines for acceptance of such offers violate the intent of this Resolution."
