Purdue’s Actuarial Science Program stands at the forefront of actuarial education, blending rigorous academics with real-world relevance.

Recently ranked #1 in the United States by CollegeChoice.net, the program continues to set the standard for preparing the next generation of actuaries and risk management professionals.

With more than 300 students enrolled, the program offers a comprehensive curriculum covering all Society of Actuaries (SOA) preliminary examinations required for associateship credentials. Students build a strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, and business while gaining valuable experience that positions them for success across the financial, insurance, and data-driven sectors.

Recognizing the growing influence of data science and artificial intelligence in today’s professional landscape, Purdue’s Actuarial Science Program integrates these emerging disciplines through advanced coursework and research opportunities. This forward-looking approach equips graduates with the analytical rigor and adaptability essential for navigating an evolving industry.

Under the direction of Dr. Jianxi Su, the program is supported by eight faculty and staff members who are either credentialed actuaries or pursuing professional designations. The team includes four tenured or tenure-track faculty with active research portfolios and four instructors with extensive teaching and professional experience—an ideal balance of academic excellence and industry insight.

Together, these strengths drive the program’s mission to advance actuarial education and research while fostering innovation at the intersection of mathematics, data science, and risk management.

Actuarial Science is offered by Purdue at both the West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations. Explore the newly launched website to learn more: www.science.purdue.edu/actuarial-science
