The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) elected Atinuke Olusola Adebanji, associate professor of practice in the Department of Statistics at Purdue University, to its Fellowship during its 223rd General Meeting of Fellows on Oct. 9, 2025.

This honor recognizes Adebanji’s sustained commitment to advancing statistical science and mentoring emerging scholars. Her election marks her entry into an esteemed body of scholars poised to help guide the direction of research, education and public engagement in Ghana and beyond.

Adebanji will be formally inducted at a ceremony in Accra, Ghana. At the ceremony, she will also receive the privilege of using the post-nominal title FGA and is invited to deliver an inaugural lecture within three years of her election.

At Purdue, Adebanji brings to her role more than 20 years of experience in statistics and data analysis, having served in academic and research positions across Africa and internationally. Her research has spanned multivariate data analysis, biostatistics, population‐and‐development statistics and interdisciplinary collaboration.

“Teaching, to me, is … a profound opportunity to ignite curiosity, empower critical thinking, and inspire a lifelong passion for statistical knowledge,” said Adebanji.

Her work has included leadership in statistical consulting, mentoring of young scholars—particularly women in STEM— and engaging with data to inform real‐world decisions. At Purdue, she contributes to both undergraduate and graduate instruction, and supports the broader mission of the College of Science to develop students who are analytical, collaborative and prepared for the data-rich challenges of the modern world.

The Department of Statistics and the College of Science at Purdue extend heartfelt congratulations to Professor Adebanji on her election to the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her achievement reflects the global reach of Purdue’s scholarly community and the university’s commitment to research and education that serve society.
