Purdue Statistics holds first Graduate Student Workshop
03-11-2025

The Department of Statistics held its first Graduate Student Workshop on November 21, 2024, organized by the Graduate Student Organization and the graduate office. The workshop featured nine research talks by PhD students, each presenting a 30-minute talk on their research.
The presentations covered a range of topics, including probability, applied statistics, causal inference, Bayesian conformal inference, large language models, and differential privacy, etc. Faculty members attended the talks and provided evaluations, fostering an engaging academic exchange. The talks were of high quality, and the workshop closely resembled professional meetings in statistics.
Two students received awards based on faculty evaluations. Young Hyun Cho, advised by Jordan Awan and Wei Sun, won first place and received a $300 prize. Haoze Li, advised by Jun Xie, earned second place with a $200 award. A special thank you to Hyunwoo Chung, an officer in the Graduate Student Organization, for scheduling and coordinating the event. The workshop was well received by both students and faculty, providing an excellent platform for students to share their research, receive feedback, and connect with the department community.
