Purdue Actuarial Science Leads AI-Driven Research in Advancing the Profession

11-18-2025

Faculty in Purdue University’s Actuarial Science Program are leading innovative research that applies data science and artificial intelligence (AI) to address some of the most pressing challenges in insurance and risk management today. By translating emerging AI methodologies into practical, industry-ready tools, Purdue researchers are helping shape the future of the actuarial profession.

Over the past year, Purdue Actuarial Science has secured six competitive research grants from the Society of Actuaries (SOA), contributing meaningful insights in several key areas, including:

  • Promoting fairness and equity in long-term care insurance
  • Compiling mortality, socioeconomic, and demographic datasets to support future research
  • Enhancing disaster resilience across ASEAN countries
  • Generating synthetic health data using AI methods
  • Developing AI-enabled tools for improved retirement planning
  • Integrating wearable data into accelerated underwriting models

Purdue Actuarial Science was also named one of five university partners selected by the SOA to lead high-impact, AI-driven research in risk management—an honor that underscores the program’s growing national leadership in this space.

This recognition reflects Purdue’s continued commitment to advancing the actuarial profession through research and innovation. The program’s dual mission remains clear:

  1. To prepare industry-ready, technologically fluent actuarial professionals
  2. To develop forward-thinking solutions that strengthen the insurance and risk management industries

Purdue Actuarial Science welcomes collaboration with alumni, industry partners, and fellow researchers as we work together to advance the profession and tackle the emerging challenges of tomorrow.
