Since 2015, the Department of Statistics at Purdue University has been sending a cohort of students to the Undergraduate Mathematics Conference at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. In April 2018, 30 undergraduate students from Purdue's Statistics Living Learning Community participated in the conference. Seven of these undergraduate students from Purdue presented talks about their research. Three of these students--Meera Haridasa, Namaluba Malawo, and Amber Young--won the overall top three prizes for student talks at the conference. Additionally, two prizes of honorable mention were awarded, including one to Simon Langowski from Purdue.
Dr. Mark Daniel Ward delivered a 2.5 hour workshop on data science for the participants. Nearly 200 students attended the conference altogether.
