Dr. Jozef Teugels is Professor of Statistics at the Katholieke Universiteit of Leuven, Belgium. His large body of distinguished published research focuses on probability, statistics and classical analysis and in different fields of application, ranging from insurance to environmetrics, extreme value theory, risk theory, renewal theory and categorical data analysis. Professor Teugels is president of the National Committee of Mathematics of Belgium, and was vice president of the International Statistical Institute from 2001 to 2003. He was the 1996 Belgian Francqui-chair at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, and a recipient of the 1999 Henri Willem Methorst Medal of the International Statistical Institute. In 2000, he received the Huesped Distinguido of the City of Guanajuato, Mexico. He received the M.S. in 1966 and the Ph.D. in 1967 in Statistics from Purdue University.
