The Mathematics Department was moved out of the School of Science, Education and Humanities and temporarily into the School of Engineering. The Division of Mathematical Sciences was created with Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science as its units.

Events:

The Department of Statistics became an independent entity within the School of Science. Shanti S. Gupta was named Head of the Department. This task was accomplished largely through the efforts of Professor Gupta with the support of Felix Haas, Dean of the School of Science.
