STAT 582 Notes, Examples, Guidelines, and References, Spring 2025
- Data Analysis
- Some general guidelines were
compiled by
Professor Bruce Craig; also see some
notes by Professor Bryan Joiner.
A rich source of wisdom is in Chapter one of Cox and Snell (1981).
Below are some notes on a few selected technical topics.
- A cheat sheet summarizing basic
techniques and noting on some niche settings. bt.R
- A short list of good practices for graphing data
is here. The data and the
plotting code used in the example
are here, to be sourced into R.
- Some notes on design and analysis and
the data(toy.R, mice.R)
used in illustrations.
- Some notes on power analysis.
- Examples
- Shared below are some data examples.
- Here is a data set with 13 traits
and a binary outcome. One may try classification or logistic
regression, but a scatter plot matrix shows no pattern.
- Report Writing
- Follow the guidelines compiled
by Professor Craig; a copy of Professor Joiner's handout
is here. Also of help is a
set of rubrics put together
by Professor Craig, though we will not stick to these this
semester.
- Other References
- Below are miscellaneous readings concerning various aspects of
statistical consulting.
