Announcements (All updates will be posted here - you are responsible for all information listed)
- Wed. Jan. 2: There are three ways that you can obtain the textbook for the course. 1) Find a used copy of Kutner, Nachtsheim, Neter, Li, "Applied Linear Statistical Models", Fifth edition 2) Buy the special version for this class from the bookstore. 3) Buy the special version for STAT 512 that was created in Fall 2012. Note: I do not recommend the online version because the exams will be open notes, open book. Therefore, if you want to bring the book with you, you will have to have a hard copy either by buying it or printing it out.
- Thurs. Jan. 3: To register for the discussion groups on Piazza.com, go to https://piazza.com/purdue/spring2013/stat512.
- Mon. Jan. 7: Welcome to the class!
- Wed. Jan. 9: The time and location of the Wednesday night help session has been determined. It will be 7 - 9 pm on Wednesdays in BRNG B280 (the basement) except during school holidays.
- Wed. Jan. 9: The cost of the e-book will be ~$112.32. Please let me know if you want me to create it.
- Fri. Jan. 11: I have been asked to make the following announcement in my classes about student withdrawals.
January 14-February 4: Advisor Signature Required (Course recorded with a grade of "W"). Student needs to take completed Form 23 to Office of the Registrar for processing (Hovde 45).
February 5-March 18: Advisor and Instructor (Instructor shall indicate whether passing or failing.) Grades of "W", "WF", or "WN" will be recorded. Students with a semester classification of 0, 1, or 2 do not need the instructor's signature; grades will be "W". Student needs to take completed form to Office of the Registrar for processing (Hovde 45)
In addition, I would like to make a further request. If you know that you are going to withdraw from the course THIS week, please do it before the end of drop/adds so that other students can add the course. - Wed. Jan. 16: The first update is in red. The second update is in
blue.
The University bookstore does not want to order more books because the book keeps changing. You can NOT order the book from anywhere else because this is a special edition. For the time being, I have scanned the page that is required for Homework 1 and posted it on Piazza.com. Update: Folletts is reordering 20 copies of the book. The books should arrive in Folletts in 7 - 10 business days so they will come in next week at the earliest. To get the book from University Book Store, you need to go to www.purdueu.com and prepay for it. Then the bookstore will order the book for you. The University bookstore is NOT going to order any more books. - Wed. Feb. 6: I forgot to remind you in class to turn in the matrices 'group' project on Thursday if you have not already turned it in. Please put the assignment on a separate piece of paper to make grading easier. Thank you.
- Fri. Feb. 8: Homework 5 is now available. I am sorry for the delay.
- Wed. March 27: Office hours next Wednesday (April 3) will be from 2 - 3 pm instead of from 3 - 4 pm.
- Mon. April 15: As requested the first two problems for the last problem set have been posted. After lecture on Tuesday, I will update these problems with points and any additional problems that may be included.
- Wed. May 1: I have decided on the number of points to add to your project score. Remember, these will NOT be recorded in blackboard. The number of points is based on the number of predictor variables in the original model. If you had 21 predictors: 15 pts, 12 predictors: 10 pts, anything else: 5 pts.
- Sun. May 5: Your grades have been posted to Blackboard, I will be submitted them to Purdue Monday afternoon.
