Announcements (All updates will be posted here - you are responsible for all information listed)
- Mon. June 2: We will be using WebAssign this semester with the course directly linked to Blackboard. Please use the link in Blackboard to connect to WebAssign.
- Mon. June 2: You may buy the access card which includes the e-book directly from the publisher using the following link: http://www.cengagebrain.com/shop/isbn/978-1-285-85804-3 (This course is Statistics for Engineers). The cost is $65. There is a free trial, but I am not sure of the exact dates. The 'free trial' ends on June 30. Updated 6/13/14
- Thurs. June 12: One of your classmates found the following information: If you buy the access card from cengage (see the link above) and use the coupon code "5OFF50" (O is the letter, 0 is a number), you will receive $5 off the price.
- Mon. June 16: Welcome to the class!
- Wed. June 18: If you get the logon screen when you are using Blackboard to access WebAssign: 1) If you are using an ITaP computer, contact them for help at itap@purdue.edu. 2) If you are not using an ITaP computer, try the following a) clear your Cache and cookies. b) Make sure that your browser accepts 3rd party cookies. Please see http://www.purdue.edu/goldanswers/372742/ for help. If these don't work, contact itap for help. I would appreciate being in the loop so that I can update my comments for future students.
- Thurs. June 19: 1) I have deleted out a comment in HW 1 so it should be clearer. 2) In HW2 Q2, I have (hopefully) corrected the key for the calculation of the IQR. If anyone has any concerns or problems, please let me know.
- Thurs. June 19: For WebAssign, you need to include the leading 0 for decimals. That is if the answer is 0.123, .123 will be marked wrong. If you think your answer is correct and WebAssign is marking it wrong, please e-mail me or post privately on Piazza so that I can check it out. Please do not post answers publically on Piazza.
- Fri. June 20: I have posted the poll on piazza for whether you want to cancel 7/2 or 7/3. As of right now, the other class date that will be cancelled is 7/23. I will keep you posted.
- Sun. June 22: I made a mistake in the answer for Question 12d). If you have already answered the question incorrectly, please go back to see if it is now correct. If you got the 'correct' answer, it will now be incorrect. I have given everyone an additional trial to get the correct answer because of this. That is, instead of 3 trials to get the correct answer, you now get 4 trials for this part only.
- Wed. June 25: The poll is now closed. I will explain why in lecture. The two cancelled class dates are July 3 and July 23. The material covered on July 2 will NOT be on Midterm 1.
- Fri. June 27: In HW 4, I changed problem 8 part c) to make the question clearer. The answer on WebAssign is the same as before so if you already received credit for answering the problem, your total points is correct, however the reason that you need to write on the separate paper is changed.
- Fri. June 27: Project 1 is now available. We have already covered question 1 and part of question 2 if you want to get started.
- Mon. June 30: I have made some modifications to Project 1 to make the project easier to understand.
- Wed. July 2: There was a mistake in the key for HW 2, problem 12c. As of now, ignore this part. Since this problem was not graded for work, all I need to do is update the WebAssign points if you missed that part. I will do that over the weekend. Sorry for the confusion.
- Wed. July 9: I just updated Question 2 in Project 1. The question is asking for the number of trials until the first face card is drawn, not before the first face card is drawn.
- Fri. July 11: Office hours are CANCELLED on Wed. July 16. I will have to leave campus immediately after the 1 pm class.
- Tues. July 15: On HW 7, problem 4, there is a typo in the question which I can not modify without removing the question. The following should be added to the question: The population distribution is relatively symmetrical.
- Thurs. July 17: Class will be cancelled on Wed. July 23; however I will be in my office all day if you have last minute questions due to the exam that evening.
- Mon. July 21: Project 2 is now posted.
- Wed. July 23: Office hours on Tuesday July 29 are CANCELLED. The project needs to be turned in by 2 pm (when I get back to my office after class) or will have a 10% penalty. If it is turned in after I arrive in my office on Tuesday, it will have a 50% penalty. If you can not meet these deadlines, please contact me as soon as possible.
- Mon. July 28: Due to a mistake in the key, everyone will get 2 additional points on Midterm 2.
