Title: "An Open Discussion about Academic Interviews, Careers and Life"
Speaker: Rebecca Doerge, Department of Statistics, Department of Agronomy
Place: Mechanical Engineering (ME) 161; January 29, 2008; Tuesday, 4:30pm

Abstract

Once a year during the Bioinformatics Seminar Series there is an open discussion about life as an academic faculty member. It seems that many students apply for academic positions without having a full appreciation of the expectations that are placed on faculty, especially junior faculty. This seminar is an open invitation to all students and faculty (at any level) that want to ask questions about academia, discussion issues that you are not certain about, or voice concerns. It promises to be a lively discussion that will hopefully bring some awareness and clarity to a sometimes confusing subject.
