Title: MICROARRAY EXPERIMENTS IN ANIMAL SCIENCE

Abstract

To date, the production of microarrays for livestock species has been limited, largely due to a lack of large collections of sequenced cDNA clones. Several groups across the country have initiated EST projects to alleviate this problem and will likely be producing microarrays in the future. In the meantime, one option available to animal scientists is to use cross-species hybridizations with commercially available human microarrays. Currently, my laboratory is evaluating the use of human nylon microarrays in hybridizations with pig cDNA. Results of this work will be presented. Strategies to verify results from cross-species hybridizations, experiments being planned within Purdue's Animal Science department, and challenges unique to animal scientists will also be discussed.
