1993 Distinguished Alumnus Fred C. Leone
Dr. Leone received his B.A. from Manhattan College in 1942, his M.S. from Georgetown University in 1943,
and his Ph.D. in Statistics in 1949. He joined the Case Institute of Technology as an instructor in
1949, becoming professor in 1964. In 1973 Dr. Leone became Executive Director of the American Statistical Association (ASA),
a professional organization of over 16,000 members. He guided the transformation of the ASA from a scientific society to a professional
association with much broader aims. The ASA's Center for Statistical Education now directs several large projects developing
material and training teachers to improve school mathematics education. Dr. Leone has been Executive Director Emeritus of the ASA since
his retirement in 1988, and in 1989 received the Associations's Founders Award.Announcement that was given at the time of the award.
