Dr. Donna Brogan is Professor, both in the Biostatistics Division of the Rollins School of Public Health and in the Winship Cancer Center in the School of Medicine at Emory University, Altanta, Georgia. She is a distinguished scholar in biostatistical research and is an expert on the statistics of breast cancer. She has also been a leader in the advancement of women in the field of statistics. She received the B.A. in Mathematics from Gettysburg College in 1960, the M.S. in Statistics from Purdue University in 1962 and the Ph.D. in Statistics from Iowa State University in 1967. She has served as the Division Director of Biostatistics at Emory from 1991-1994. In 1971 she was a co-founder of the Caucus for Women in Statistics, which honored her in 1991 for “fostering opportunities for women in the discipline and profession of statistics”. She was elected a fellow of the American Statistical Association in 1985. The Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies gave her the Elizabeth Scott Award in 1994 for “significant contributions to the recruitment and advancement of women in statistics”. She received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania in 1994 and 1995, Iowa State University engraved her name on its Plaza of Heroines, which honors outstanding women graduates and faculty.
