Dean Jeffrey Roberts, College of Science, announced the selection of Professor Rebecca Doerge as Head of the Department of Statistics, replacing Mary Ellen Bock who will step down on June 30, 2010, after 15 years:

"It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Rebecca Doerge as Head of the Department of Statistics, effective July 1, for an initial term of three years. Anyone who knows Rebecca appreciates that she has the energy, drive, and ability to be successful in this very important role.

I will take this opportunity to thank Mary Ellen Bock her many years of extraordinary service as Head. Mary Ellen presided over tremendous growth in Statistics, both in terms of numbers and in intellectual scope. Her mark on Statistics will be felt for decades to come I also wish to thank the members of the search committee- Bill Cleveland (who had the thankless task of being chair), Jayanta Ghosh, Andy Hirsch, Jun Xie, and Hao Zhang- for their diligent and effective work.

Please join me in congratulating Rebecca on her new appointment."
