Virgil L. Anderson
Professor Virgil L. Anderson was born in North
Liberty, Indiana in 1922. He received his B.S. in
Mathematics from Iowa State University in 1947 and
went on to complete his Ph.D. in Statistics from the
same university in 1953.Anderson joined Purdue University's Department of Statistics in 1951 as an Assistant Professor. He became Associate Professor in 1956 at which time he was Director of the Statistics Lab. Shortly after, Anderson was promoted to Professor and worked as such until 1986, when he retired. Through the years, Anderson was a Visiting Professor at the University of Texas at Austin several times. He journeyed to the University of Madrid in Spain in 1973 and worked as a Visiting Lecturer.
Professor Anderson conducted consultation in Applied Statistics for many corporations during his years at Purdue University. He was Fellow of the American Statistical Association, Mathematical Honorary of Pi Mu Epsilon, Agricultural Honorary of Gamma Sigma Delta and member of the Biometrics Society as well as Sigma Xi.
Professor Anderson's research interests include quantitative genetics, design of experiments and highway research.
