Department of Statistics and Department of Mathematics Monday, April 7, 2003 3:30 PM in REC 227 Professor Alexander Gnedin University of Utrecht, The Netherlands will speak on Stick-Breaking Composition Structures Abstract The size-biased Ewens sampling formula describes a composition structure induced by sampling from a collection of `stick-breaking' frequencies, with i.i.d. residuals governed by a Beta distribution. We argue that replacing the Beta by an arbitrary probability distribution still leads to `logarithmic' composition structures, with explicit sampling formulas and a central limit law for the number of parts. |
