Statistical Applications in Pharmaceutical Research and Development Department of Statistics Purdue University Monday, October 15, 2001 4:30 PM in LAEB B222 Dr. Jay Andersen Eli Lilly & Company will speak on Applications of Decision Analysis in the Pharmaceutical Industry Abstract The role of the practicing statistician can be expanded to include consulting beyond the traditional statistical responsibilities. Statisticians are known for the quantitative expertise and objectivity that they bring to consulting projects. These two attributes are also quite valuable in consulting on complex decision problems. This discussion will focus on the application of decision analysis methodology in the pharmaceutical industry. Examples that will be explored include clinical development of a drug candidate, trade-offs between manufacturing, development, and marketing, and portfolio management.
