Statistics Minor
The statistics minor is intended to give students
majoring in another discipline an introduction to
statistical ideas and methods. Because first courses in
probablity and statistics are taught in several
departments, the minor allows some courses taken outside
the Statistics Department.
Requirements
Five courses are required. At least three of these courses must be listed in the Statistics Department.- An introductory statistics course: STAT 35000, 50300, or 51100, or an equivalent course in another department.
- An introductory probability course: STAT 22500, 31100, or 41600, or an equivalent course in another department.
- Applied regression analysis, STAT 51200.
- Two of the following courses: STAT 51300, 51400, 41600 (if not used to satisfy requirement 2), 41700, IE 33600.
Courses that do
not require calculus, such as
PSY 20100 and
SOC 38200, are not equivalent to the courses
listed.
While there are several paths to the statistics minor, here are some sample plans of study which specific majors might find useful:
Management: STAT 22500 (probability),
MGMT 30500 (statistics), STAT 51200, STAT 51300, and STAT 51400.
Industrial Engineering:
IE 23000 (probability),
IE 33000 (statistics), STAT 51200, STAT 51300, and STAT 51400.
Science: STAT 51100, STAT 22500, STAT 51200, STAT 51300, and STAT 51400.
Pharmacy/Nursing/Biology/Agriculture: STAT 50300, STAT 22500, STAT 51200, STAT 51300, and STAT 51400.
